Over the past weekend, Barclays Africa hosted their Corporate Investment Bankers (CIB’s) and clients at a Barclays Master Class with Robert Pirès. The coaching clinic took place at Green Point Salesian AFC in Cape Town on Saturday morning.
Robert Pirès, a former French International and Arsenal Footballer, and Barclays Premier League Legend, joined in the activities where the children of Absa CIB clients were put through their paces in a series of coaching sessions that focused on Passing, Dribbling and Finishing. The young players were also given the chance to play with Robert in a 4-a-side mini-football match.
The Barclays Premier League Trophy was also on display during the event, giving guest the opportunity to have the picture with the iconic trophy
The Arsenal Legend won three FA Cups and two Premier League Titles with the Club, and was part of the Club’s historic 2003-04 season which saw the team finish the season unbeaten.
Pirès’ international career saw him earn 79 caps between 1996 and 2004 for his country and he was a member of the French side that won the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2000.
Pirès was included in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2001-02, 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons and was voted the Player of the Tournament for the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup.
The Football great spent his time in South Africa engaging with Barclays Clients and sharing his vast football knowledge and experience.
