Over the past week, the Castle Academy team has played two practice games against Mamelodi Sundowns and University of Pretoria.
After a few little training sessions with Coach Neil Tovey, assisted by Phil Masinga, Calvin Peterson and Thomas Nare the team took to the field on Saturday against Mamelodi Sundowns . The Brazilians youth side, coached by Alex Bapela, presented a stern test for the boys as they eventually went down 2-1 in a tightly contested game at Chloorkop
On Sunday the team was treated to a Q&A with Castle Academy graduate and current Vasco da Gama centre back Rafiq de Goede to share some valuable advice with the class of 2015. Rafiq was part of the first Superstars Squad in 2013 playing for Durbanville & later Maties. While at the Maties SAB side, Rafiq was asked to go on trial at Vasco da Gama. Rafiq shared with the new squad his journey and what the players can expect after the camp.
Yesterday the Castle Academy team went on to play the University of Pretoria. Due to the squad numbers the coaches decided to divide the game into four 30 minute quarters. The SuperStars opened the scoring in the 23rd minute of the third quarter. Bafana Dlamini burst down the right flank before whipping in a wicked cross which Bongumusa Mabuza fired straight at Lebogang Ngubeni who parried his save straight at Dylan O’Brien. The Kovsies striker was quickest to react, firing in from close range, 1-0. The Score remained the same at the end of the match.
The Superstars next game is on Wednesday when they will take on Bidvest Wits.
