Castle Academy wraps up for the class of 2014/2015

February, 2015

January brought with it great opportunities for the SAB League, opening up their football academy to 23 hopeful footballers. Over a two week period 23 players were treated to a professional football camp, where under the leadership of Neil Tovey, Phil Masinga and a technical team, the players were given the chance to show off their talents in 5 pre-season friendlies.
The Superstar team won 4 out of the 5 games they played; results below:

Castle Academy 5 – 2 Highlands Park

Castle Academy 1 – 0 TUKS

Castle Academy 1 – 2 Mamelodi Sundowns

Castle Academy 4 – 3 Bidvest Wits

Castle Academy 2 – 1 AmaZulu

The players were also given the unique opportunity to engage with key South African coaches and mentors; which included Stuart Baxter, André Arendse, Steve Khompela, Eric Tinkler, Clive Barker, Pitso Mosimane.

A number of the players impressed the coaches and local scouts who were invited to the players’ camp and matches, and will be given the opportunity to go on trials at PSL and NFD clubs over the next few months.

The camp ended with an awards ceremony held at Moyo’s Zoo Lake, with the top players receiving recognition for their time spent on the camp.  Top awards went to Castle Football Academy Goal Keeper of the Tournament 2015 Martin Mthimkhulu, Castle Football Academy Most Improved Player 2015 Dawny “Chillies” Makatho, Castle Football Academy Team Spirit Award 2015 Happy Mashua, Castle Football Academy Best Attitude 2015 Lebogang Serache, Castle Football Academy Player of the Camp 2015 Tshepo Mokhabi. The players themselves were also given a chance to vote for their fellow team mates, with awards going to Castle Football Academy Fan Favourite 2015 Thabang Mothogwane and Castle Football Academy Best Nick Name 2015 Shakira.

Castle Academy Coach Neil Tovey ended the camp very pleased after a successful third edition to the campaign. Tovey is confident the players can now kick-on to bigger and better things having performed well over the course of the camp and given all the opportunities presented by SAB.
