CASTLE SCOUTS IN STELLENBOSCH

July, 2013

Castle Lager, the first sponsor of our national football team, has been involved in the sport locally since 1959. In line with their aim to ensure a bright future in South Africa as well as to celebrate their close association with football and Bafana Bafana, the brand has embarked on a journey of “Finding Tomorrow Bafana Bafana”; an initiative to find and nurture young soccer talent in South Africa and ultimately continue the legacy that is Bafana Bafana.

This week in Stellenbosch saw the start of season 2 of this programme. 50 players under the age of 21, deemed the top talents in each province, were scouted at the beginning of this month during the U21 SAB National Tournament held in Stellenbosch. The scouts, headed by ex-captain Neil Tovey, will continue their quest to find Castle Superstars as they monitor these selected players who are competing to be one of the top 23 to participate in an exclusive 3 week Superstars XI training camp in January 2014 where they will be coached and mentored by Tovey in preparation of the world of professional football.
