Between the 14 – 16 May, together with Discovery and the JPSFA kicked off our first Discovery sponsored football property – the Discovery Boys Festival – and this year’s event delivered on every promise of passion, purpose, and potential amongst South African youth.
From 113 Schools to 13 Teams, to a selection of 45 Boys: The Journey to the Festival
It all began months ago, with over 113 primary schools from across the Gauteng participating in regional selection rounds. Through intense scouting, collaboration with coaches, and commitment to identifying talent early, the pool was narrowed to 13 top teams who earned the opportunity to compete at the festival, held from 14 – 16 May 2025.
But this isn’t just another tournament. This is a platform – a space where young footballers weren’t judged on results alone, but on their ability, attitude, and potential for the future.
At the Discovery Boys Festival, there is no “winning team.” Instead, the focus is entirely on development and discovery. Over the three-day showcase, players were evaluated not for lifting a trophy – but for earning a spot in the next phase of their journey.
By the end of the festival, 45 standout players were selected through an intensive scouting process to represent three regional squads – Southerns, Northerns, and Wits – at the prestigious Bill Stewart Tournament, a key stepping stone in the national youth football pathway.

This year also saw the introduction of an U12 Development Squad – an exciting new initiative that allowed younger players at the festival to gain recognition and exposure. These promising talents may be a year younger, but they’ve already signalled their potential to possibly return in 2026 as impact players at the U13 level.
This addition reinforces Discovery’s commitment to not only recognising existing talent but also investing in long-term youth development and building a strong football pipeline from an early age.
The Discovery Boys Festival is about more than football. It’s about giving kids access to elite coaching, national visibility, and the belief that their dreams are worth chasing. It’s about uniting schools, families, and communities around shared values of opportunity, excellence, and growth.
By removing the pressure of trophies and placing emphasis on scouting and development, the festival fosters an environment where players can express themselves freely and be recognised purely on merit.
As we look ahead, the 45 selected players and the U12 squad represent the future of South African football – and the Discovery Boys Festival continues to be a launchpad for their journeys.
Thank You to Everyone Involved
To the title sponsor Discovery, the ball sponsor Mitre, the JPSFA, the schools, coaches, parents, referees, scouts, the medics, and most importantly, the players – thank you for making the Discovery Boys Festival 2025 a celebration of talent, teamwork, and belief.
We can’t wait to see how far these young stars will go.
