A “Pre” Youth Day Celebration of talent, teamwork, and opportunity.
Forwardzone, in partnership with the Johannesburg Primary Schools Football Association (JPSFA), and Discovery SA proudly delivered the 2025 Discovery Girls Festival – the second key property of the Discovery Schools Football Programme this year.
Set against the backdrop of Youth Day celebrations, the festival was more than just a football tournament. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of creating platforms for young girls to shine, dream, and grow through the beautiful game. With schools from across Johannesburg represented, the event pulsed with energy, excitement, and ambition.
From the first whistle to the final goal, the weekend was packed with high-quality football, fierce competition, and moments of pure sporting joy. Coaches, selectors, and supporters watched closely as young girl players showcased not only their technical skills and tactical awareness, but also their teamwork, spirit, and sportsmanship – qualities essential for the next stage of their football journeys.
The purpose of the festival was clear: to identify and select talented players who will go on to represent the JPSFA at the prestigious Fran Hilton Smith Tournament in August. As a pivotal moment in the girls’ football calendar, the Discovery Girls Festival serves as a key stepping stone in the development of future stars of the women’s game.
The atmosphere was one of community and collaboration. Managers coached with intention, following the guidance of selectors, while parents and spectators were encouraged to support from the sidelines, allowing the girls the space to play, learn, and grow in an environment rooted in fair play and respect.
The Discovery Girls Festival is about more than football, it’s about empowering young girls, building character, and opening pathways through sport. We are incredibly proud of all the players who took part this weekend – they are the future of the game.
