Discovery has sponsored the Summer Cup Tournament for the past 2 years and every year it is a success. This year it was held at the Discovery Soccer Park on the 4th October and 10 schools from Alexandra were invited to participate. 9 boys teams arrived on the day as well as 2 girls teams. Transport was arranged for all schools and each child received a goodie bag, 4 pieces of fruit, a lunch pack from Nandos and shirts were also given to the children to use during the tournament.
The tournament went very well and all the children were very enthusiastic to play. They even ran to the courts after lunch to kick the ball around before the next round of games started. The girls’ teams which were Zenzeleni and Carter played best out of 3 matches and Zenzeleni proved to be the better team after winning all 3 of their matches as well as conceding no goals. After 8 Round Robin matches for the boys teams the final match was decided – It was between Polosho and Zenzeleni. It was a very exciting match and all the children were cheering on their favourite team. In the end Polosho won on penalties.
During prize giving, each child in the top 7 received a bronze medal, the runner up teams received a silver medal and the winning teams received a gold medal and a trophy.
It was a fantastic day filled with lots of fun, great football and plentyof happy children.
