Edries Burton Appointed Vasco Da Gama COO

July, 2015

Vasco Da Gama Football Club is proud to confirm the appointment of Edries Burton as the club’s Chief Operating Officer.
Edries Burton is a renowned and respected administrator in the Cape Town football fraternity, and it is with great pleasure that he has joined the Vasco family.

Edries made a name for himself when he played for the likes of Santos, Cape Town Spurs and AmaZulu, during a career which spanned across 18 years – 15 of which he spent playing in the Cape.

After retiring in 2007, Edries was appointed the Chief Operations Manager at Santos – a role he held up until he left the club in August 2014. He then became the Chief Executive Officer of Cape Town All Stars.

Commenting on Burton’s appointment, Vasco Director Carlos das Neves said: “Vasco is in the process of implementing and formalizing club structures that will see Vasco operate as a fully professional club.

“Part of this process was to appoint a COO to drive this going forward. When it came to selecting the COO, we were looking for someone with a strong background in football administration – someone who understood the culture of Cape Town football.

“Edries’ knowledge and experience ticked both these boxes, and we believe the value Edries’ appointment brings to the club will be felt both on and off the field.”

As COO, Edries will be tasked with overseeing all administrative and management matters relating to the club, as Vasco Da Gama strives to become a leading model of club administration and management.
