Football is about more than rivalry, it’s a celebration of camaraderie, unity, and community. It’s about honoring the past, supporting the present, and building towards the future. These values took center stage at the inaugural Idas Valley AFC – Nelsons AFC Family & Registration Day, held at the Idas Valley Stadium over the weekend.

Forwardzone Cares supported the event by donating the Legends Teams’ match kit, underscoring importance of sport and the link between past and present generations in uniting and inspiring communities on and off the field.

The football-packed day was a joint initiative of the Idas Valley AFC and Nelsons AFC Club Chairmen.

Idas Valley AFC and Nelsons AFC have had a long-standing rivalry over the years with each club having a loyal and deeply entrenched fan base.

Setting aside the rivalry for one day, at least off the field, the event gave the Stellenbosch football community an opportunity to come together to honour the legends of the game that were instrumental in building this community, while focusing on the future and to grow the pathways these players forged by using the preseason event give the community’s young footballers an opportunity to play and to raise funds and awareness for the clubs’ youth team initiatives to ensure the continued enrichment of the youth players within the community.
