KAPPA CUP FINALS WC

December, 2013

This weekend 30TH of November 2013, Idas Valley FC were crowned the winners in the Western Cape Finals of the Kappa Under 15 football event hosted in Stellenbosch under the organisation of the Stellenbosch Local Football Association.
Together with the support of Kappa South Africa and SuperSport United, the Stellenbosch LFA ran a tournament for sixteen locals teams of which four are left.

Over the weekend Franschhoek battled it out with Idas Valley and Maties clashed with Newtons to compete for a finals spot.

Ricky Joseph of Kappa SA comments on Kappa’s entry into the youth development sector of South African football: “When we partnered with SuperSport United we saw a chance to reach grassroot football and to get our brand closer to a younger community and not just to see Kappa being worn on the TV by the professionals.

“We wanted to see youngsters getting involved with our brand and enjoying it. We also wanted to give back to the community and to help SuperSport find great talent and help the country progress”.

“It is obvious that we need to improve at this level of the game and not only find the best young talent but bring through winners into our country’s football”.

“So we felt to get the Kappa Cup rolling and find the potential out there. In the final of the Kappa Cup all the young players will be wearing a specially made Kappa kit and we believe this will make them feel special”.

Steward Masela, General Manager of Corporate Affairs with SuperSport United said: “As a club we’re positive about the opportunity to partner with Kappa and with the exciting partnership with the Stellenbosch University, we are hoping to see some great talent come out of this region.

“We hope to see talent emerging in this region for the growth of both Maties Football and SuperSport United. We have seen so many good young players come through the SuperSport academy and others go on to play for clubs across South Africa”.

“We hope that we can play a role in seeing a brighter future for young players in South African football”.

The Final game saw Idas Valley beat Maties by 1-0 after an entertaining 50 minute game.
