The women’s sporting landscape continues to be making headway with exciting news and continuous achievements. In the month of February, we saw Banyana Banyana successfully compete against Tanzania in an Olympic Qualifier, with Forwardzone talent Gabriela Salgado among the selected players. The team’s main focus is to secure a spot in the Paris Olympics later on this year, with their next challenge being a clash against Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the fourth round of the women’s Olympic qualifiers, set to take place in April.
Looking at the local South African Hollywoodbets Super League, we saw some #TeamFZ athletes at the JVW Program for Football Development Club complete their pre-season preparations with Tanna Hollis and Julia Goncalves being promoted to the JVW 1st Team, joining Robyn Moodaly, Gabriela Salgado and Anneliese Hindelang. Despite a 2-0 loss to TS Galaxy Queens in their first match of the 2024 season, the team remains optimistic for the season ahead.
Overseas, as we head down under, Charlie Gibson has signed her first professional contract with Brisbane City FC and is making progress in the u23 squad, scoring a goal and making assists. Gibson is working hard to break into the senior 1st team, a goal that we are working to achieve soon.
These achievements represent just a fraction of the female talent at Forwardzone, and we are excited to see what our athletes are yet to accomplish in the 2024 season.
