The Volkswagen Junior Masters South Africa 2019 took place from the 5th to 8th of December 2019 at the University of Witwatersrand in Braamfontein Johannesburg. The weekend saw another action-packed soccer tournament with this year’s competition including its first U/15 girls’ teams’ tournament.
The Vokswagen-sponsored Tournament saw sixteen U/12 boys’ teams and six U/15 girls’ teams went head to head for the ultimate prize, with the competing teams sponsored by dealerships from within the Volkswagen Dealerships Network from around the country.
The Opening Ceremony and draw took place on the 5th December 2019 to officially off the Volkswagen Junior Masters South Africa 2019 Tournament.
Volkswagen Junior Masters SA 2019 Ambassadors, Dean Furman, Simphiwe Dludlu and Andile Dlamini were present throughout the tournament, supporting the teams and providing words of encouragement.
Following two days of action-packed football, the tournament culminated in the much-anticipated finals.
The U/12 Boys’ Finals saw an all Johannesburg clash between Strijdom Park VW and Lindsay Saker Kempton Park. The technical skills, physical prowess, speed and agility of Strijdom Park VW were unrivaled as they won the match 3 – 0 to clinch the tournament title for the boys.
Meanwhile in the girl’s final it was a scintillating game from end to end between Hatfield VW Melrose and Strijdom Park VW, managed by current Banyana Banyana captain Janine Wan Wyk. In the end Hatfield VW Melrose ended up winning the game by 3 goals to 2.

The winning girl’s and winning boy’s teams will jet off to the Gothia Cup in Sweden, in July 2020, to represent South Africa.
The Gothia Cup is the world’s largest international youth football tournament. Each year, around 1700 teams from 80 nations take part with 4500 games played on 110 fields.
