With the 2014/15 Absa PSL season coming to an end on the 09th of May, last week saw the Absa PSL trophy travel from Gauteng to the Eastern Cape as part of a Proudly African Absa Premiership Trophy Tour.
With the escalation of the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa, Absa decided to publicly condemn the violence by utilizing the Absa Premiership Trophy tour to drive home the message that we are Proudly African.
Using soccer as a vehicle of unity South African and African soccer legends joined the tour to highlight the message of Africa Unite.
The tour kicked off in Johannesburg on Tuesday at the Absa Contact Centre in Auckland Park, with Former South African Goalkeeping Legend, Andre Arendse & Former Ghanian & Bayern Munich Defender, Samuel Kuffour.
Next stop was Umlazi Mega City in Durban where Former Bafana Bafana Afcon Winning Captain Neil Tovey and Former Mozambican and Orlando Pirates & Amazulu Defender Tomas Inguana joined the tour.
Thursday saw the road show make a stop at Rhodes University where Helman Mkhalele, better known as the Midnight Express and former Zimbabwean and SuperSport United player and current SuperSport United MultiChoice Diski team coach Kaitano Tembo greeted students.
The Legends element of the Tour wrapped up on Friday at the KeNako Mall in Port Elizabeth with Diski fans lining up around the parking lot to meet former Leeds United, Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana Legend, Lucas Radebe and Mozambican International and former Orlando Pirates player Tico Tico.
At each of the stops on the Tour, Mzansi soccer fans got the opportunity to meet Former African and South African Soccer Legends and to pose alongside them and the Absa PSL trophy.
With the current season and tour finished, it’s important that the message continues:
#ProudlyAfrican #NoToXenophobia
