Empowering Communities Through Sport
At Forwardzone, we believe in the power of sport to drive real, lasting change and we’re proud to be part of the Betway Cares Back2Play Coaches Programme – a powerful community upliftment initiative that recognises coaches as the cornerstone of grassroots sport.
This dynamic programme, launched in partnership with Betway Cares focuses on training and empowering local coaches in netball, rugby, and soccer – enabling them to identify and nurture youth talent, create structured community leagues, and foster a long-term love for the game.
At the heart of this programme is the coach. Too often overlooked, these individuals are leaders, mentors, and role models within their communities. The Back2Play Coaches Programme gives them the tools and training they need to take that impact even further.
Through a six-week hybrid training model that blends in-person workshops with digital learning, coaches are supported in developing both technical and leadership skills. These include:
- Talent Identification & Player Development
- Project and Stakeholder Management
- Communication and Report Writing
- Strategic Planning and Time Management
- Data and Analytics in Sport
More than just skills, the programme fosters confidence, collaboration, and a deepened sense of community responsibility.
The journey began with a coach selection process, from there, the six-week workshop series covered a robust curriculum designed to prepare coaches for real-world impact.
From August onwards, these trained coaches have begun building community leagues, translating their learnings into action. This next phase is about sustainability – establishing regular games, creating visibility for young talent, and embedding sport into the daily rhythm of their communities.
As an implementation and support partner, Forwardzone plays a key role in ensuring the programme’s success by managing:
- Direct communication with coaches
- Workshop planning and logistics
- Travel arrangements and guest speaker coordination
- Continuous tracking and mentorship of coaches’ progress
- Stakeholder engagement to strengthen the ecosystem
