The Betway Ghana Talent Search wrapped up this weekend with the Winners’ Announcement on Friday night.
The Talent Search which spanned four Saturdays and took place in four regions saw the top 18 players being selected for a one-week camp held in Accra.
The finalists arrived at Lizzy’s Sports Complex, the base for the camp, on Sunday and the players were welcomed by the technical staff who would be coaching and assessing the players over the next 5 days.
Each day was made up of training sessions where head coach Eric Antwi Ofori and assistant coach Godfried Adoube worked with the players on the field, while the selected goalkeepers received individual instruction from goalkeeper coach, Fiifi Forkuoh.
The camp also provided two key opportunities for the players to show their skills when the Betway Select team took on the Black Starlets and Charity Stars in two friendly matches. While the team narrowly lost both matches, the players put into practice what had been worked during the training sessions, with the team notably becoming stronger through the two matches.
The camp wasn’t only about the players’ on-the-field development. The players received life skills advice from speakers invited to share their knowledge and life lessons.
Betway Ghana Ambassador, Stephen Appiah, also continued his mentorship of the players with speaking to the final 18 and what it takes to become one of the country’s greatest players.
The deliberation for the winner took place on the final day of the camp. Testament to the talent that had been selected the process of selecting the winners proved a difficult task. After a lengthy deliberation process, the three winners were selected.
Each of the winners received a trial contract with Betway-sponsored Premier League side Ashanti Gold S.C., with 1st place receiving a 6-month trial, 2nd place a 3-month trial and 3rd place a 1-month trial.
