The 2nd Blue Label Telecoms Women’s Day Tournament was held at Evaton Soccer Park on the 9th of August 2017.
The annual Women’s Day event, that was started last year, once again used the day to celebrate the young girls in Evaton as the tournament looks to inspire the future leaders in the community.
15 Teams competed in the tournament, which was divided into two age groups, U13 and U18.
The format of the tournament saw the teams competing in a group stage, followed by the top four teams in each age group playing a semi-final round, with the winners of the semi-final matches competing in the final to be crowned the Blue Label Telecoms Women’s Day Tournament 2017 Champions.
The community came out to support, with the spectators being treated to an exciting day of football.
This year’s tournament saw Tharabolla Primary and Poelano Secondary Schools winning the U13 & U18 trophy respectively. Along with being crowned champions, each team was awarded a trophy for their school as well as a kit bag filled with football equipment. It wasn’t however all about the winners, it was ultimately about each and every young girl who took part and each girl was given a goodie bag and certificate as well as their playing kit at the end of the event.
