Castle Lager SuperStars finished their 2014 Campaign with a final match against Bidvest Wits at Wits Sturrock Park, with a draw 2-2 against the current third placed PSL team.
The team played two previous games in the build up during the week against Amatuks and Orlando Pirates.
A late goal from Atusaye Nyondo helped the University of Pretoria to a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Castle Lager SuperStars at Tuks stadium in Pretoria on Wednesday morning.
AmaTuks coach Steve Barker explained that he was pleasantly surprised by the high level of the Castle team who matched his side for large portions of the encounter.
“I thought it was a very competitive game. I was pleasantly surprised by the level of the Castle team, I think there are some really talented players there,” said Barker.
The Team then travelled to Rand Stadium to take on runners up of 2013 CAF Champions League, Orlando Pirates. After an intense first half of close calls and strong defending in the second half, the SuperStars team was unable to finish with a win but came off strong against one of the top clubs losing 4-2.
Final match day saw a strong team take on Bidvest WITS, with the Castle Lager SuperStars dominating and leading the game throughout. They saw an equalising goal from TUKS leaving the team with a final score of 2-2 in the closing game of the camp.
The “Finding Tomorrow‘s Bafana Together” campaign, which is now in its second year, has not only expanded the players’ footballing landscape but has opened the team up to a holistic football setting.
Additionally, players took part in several life skills programmes, financial workshops, media and marketing lectures, as well as a player lounge with Kazier Chiefs Manager Stuart Baxter on Wednesday the 15th of January 2014. Stuart Baxter is a former professional player for a number of clubs in England, Scotland, Australia, Sweden and in the United States, and has also managed clubs in Sweden, Norway, Portugal and Japan as well as the national teams of South Africa, Finland and the England under-19 national football team. Stuart gave each player a unique insight into the world of football and becoming a professional player. Players will be leaving the Castle Lager “Finding Tomorrow‘s Bafana Together” campaign with a new insight into the South Africa Top football league.
Final match day saw Neil Tovey and Philemon Masinga close off the campaign with sponsor lead Alastair Hewitt, General Manager of Castle Lager, inspiring the players to take advantage of their new knowledge and bring back their skills and learning to their clubs . Various players will also have the opportunity to go on trial with PSL clubs over the next few months in the hopes of becoming the next Bafana Bafana player.
