The inaugural SWITCH Coastal Cup took place on 6 June 2026 at S.O.C.A, Gateway Shopping Centre in Umhlanga, bringing together 16 teams from across KwaZulu-Natal for a day of competitive football, entertainment, and community engagement.
Created and delivered by Forwardzone in partnership with SWITCH Energy, the tournament was designed to celebrate football culture while providing a platform for local players, creators, and supporters to come together through the game.
Following an overwhelming response from more than 120 team entries, 16 teams were selected to compete in the inaugural event. The tournament featured a fast-paced five-a-side format, with teams progressing through group stages and knockout rounds in pursuit of the inaugural SWITCH Coastal Cup title.
Throughout the day, players and spectators enjoyed a festival-style atmosphere that extended beyond the football action. The event featured live entertainment, fan engagement activities, content creators, competitions, prizes, and product experiences, creating an environment that reflected the energy and personality of the SWITCH brand.
The tournament showcased an exciting mix of grassroots talent, passionate supporters, and competitive football, with teams representing communities from across the province. Players were provided with full tournament kits, meals, hydration, and a professionally managed event experience, further elevating the standard of the competition.
The success of the inaugural tournament marks an important milestone for the growth of the property, with plans underway to further develop and expand the SWITCH Coastal Cup in the years ahead.
