Forwardzone & Alexandra Partnership Continues To Grow

Wednesday, 7th of February 2017 saw the Johannesburg East District 2018 School Enrichment Awards Ceremony held in Marlboro.

Raymond Marutha, Forwardzone Executive Account Manager attended the event where Forwardzone received the award for Best Schools Sponsored Program, for two of our active programmes in Alexandra.

The two programs which received the awards were the Discovery U12 Alexandra Schools League and Alexandra Cricket Program powered by Blue Label Telecoms.

The Discovery U12 Alexandra Schools League was established in 2012. Currently in its 5th year, with Discovery signing into the program with a 3 year extension, the program connects with over 12 schools competing in and around Alexandra, with the GDE partnership, over 340 players compete in an 8 week period, playing 84 matches. Over the past 5 years over 1 500 children, both boys and girls, have been taken through the program and development of their football skills.

The Alexandra Cricket Program powered by Blue Label Telecoms, see Blue Label invest in 3 key initiatives in the communities, which sees over 6000 participates taking part in the activities. The activities include a Life Skills Schools Program, a program which takes place during life skills sessions during school hours where students learn basic cricket skills as well as vital life skills. A Holiday Program were the Top 200 performing students are invited to participate in a holiday program to further enhance their cricket skills and learn important life tools. The final leg of the program sees Top cricketers identified through the schools and holiday program invited to trial for the Alex Schools XI team. This team participates in the Montrose Night Series which sees them take on Johannesburg’s elite cricket schools.
