Girls Football highlighted on Youth Day

June, 2018

The 2nd Annual Girls Football Festival was held at Crawford Preparatory School on Saturday, 16th June 2018.

With girl’s football growing rapidly around South Africa, the Girls Football Festival is an initiative sponsored by Forwardzone, in association with the JPSFA, which sets out to further grow and promote girls football in Johannesburg schools.

The festival, which is held annually on Youth Day, aims to highlight girls football, comprises of seven girl’s teams from around the Gauteng region, six teams representing the JPSFA and one team representing Alexandria.
The festival format sees the seven teams play against each other as scouts observe individual players performance in order to select the Top 15 players of the festival.

Beyond football, sport has shown to be a powerful force of empowerment in our country and throughout the world, and it’s through the platform of football it’s a hope that this festival inspires the young girls to become heroes not only on the field, but in their schools and communities.
