#Passtheball campaign moved on to the second leg in Stellenbosch, Cape Town on Friday, 2 March 2018.
In attendance were special guests, Dr Danny Jordaan (SAFA President), Antonio Barradas (LaLiga Country Manager for South Africa), Dr. Jose Pablo Alzina (The Consul General of Spain) as well as former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates player, Stanton Fredericks.
The Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, whose funds are raised by donors, officially launched in Alexandra, Gauteng on Friday, 23 February 2018. The programme has officially seen 200 coaches go through training clinics (carried out by two international LaLiga coaches), and 2000 children receiving specially designed footballs.
“#Passtheball is a great initiative that I’m proud and fortunate to be a part of. The act of giving a soccer ball to a kid goes beyond and has a far deeper meaning. It’s great to see SAFA lending its support to such programmes aimed at improvement at grassroots level,” said Fredericks.
“Growing up I aspired to play professional football for one of the top teams here in SA and I was fortunate enough to achieve that feat. Programmes like #Passtheball will go a long way in providing a platform for other kids aspiring to either be professional football players or coaches,” concluded Fredericks.
