The 2025 Discovery Primary Schools Knockout Cup Finals

June, 2025

The final whistle has blown on what has been an exciting youth football tournament – the 2025 Discovery Primary Schools Knockout Cup, proudly powered by Discovery and hosted by the Johannesburg Primary Schools Football Association (JPSFA) and Forwardzone.

What started back in the month of May as a thrilling five-week journey across Johannesburg’s primary schools culminated in a powerful finale on Wednesday, 25 June. From the very first round to the highly anticipated finals, the tournament showcased the heart, talent, and determination of young players across the city.

Over the course of the competition, a remarkable 1,110+ matches were played across both the girls’ and boys’ divisions, spanning U9 to U14 age groups. The finals day saw the top U9, U11 and U14 girls, and U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, and U14 boys teams take to the pitch in a celebration of grassroots football excellence.

The atmosphere on finals day was electric – from early morning kick-offs to late evening showdowns under the floodlights – supporters, families, and communities came out in full force to cheer on their teams despite the winter chill.

This tournament is more than a series of matches. It’s a platform that continues to uplift youth talent, foster sportsmanship, and build lifelong memories for players, coaches, and schools alike. It’s thanks to the unwavering dedication of school principals, teachers, coaches, and sponsors like Discovery, that the tournament continues to grow from strength to strength each year.

Forwardzone is proud to support platforms that help shape the next generation of champions – on and off the pitch.

To all the players who competed, congratulations on your journey. Whether you walked away with a medal or a memory, you are the heartbeat of South African football’s future.
