The CEO Cycle Challenge and Lucas Radebe’s inspiring involvement — a story of leadership, legacy, and cycling for change.
It was early September in Johannesburg, and the air was electric with purpose. The CEO Cycle Challenge had returned – five days of pedal-powered solidarity and corporate competition, all in the name of changing lives. Hosted at Nashua’s Woodmead head office, teams would take turns cycling for 25 minutes, each press of the pedal raising funds for the South African Hall of Fame Legacy Project.
The project aimed to do more than simply uncover raw talent. It sought to level the playing field: offering bursaries, gear, mentorship, life skills, and even basic necessities – things many young, gifted children can’t take for granted. Without shoes, without a uniform, without consistent nutrition – how does one’s talent endure?

Lucas Radebe: The Chief Rallies
Into this landscape steps Lucas Radebe – former captain of Bafana Bafana, former Leeds United great, born in Soweto, forged by challenge. His story already inspires: from humble beginnings, through triumphs, setbacks, and moral clarity. Today, Lucas is more than an icon — he is a leader, advocate, and beacon for promise and possibility.
As one of the team leads in the CEO Cycle Challenge, Lucas brings something vital: presence. When people hear “Team Lucas,” they don’t just envision sprinting legs and spinning wheels – they see integrity, they feel hope, they believe that their efforts are tied to more than corporate social investment. They feel connection. They feel change. On the cyclical burn of thighs, there lies purpose. He rallies his team not just to pedal, but to understand why the ride matters. To know that every rotation of the wheel, every bead of sweat, every rand pledged shifts the margins of possibility for a child’s future. Lucas doesn’t just lead; he embodies the investment in tomorrow.
Lucas’s involvement is magnified by his ongoing work beyond the field. Through Forwardzone, his brand has been shaped and sustained, not by superficial fame, but by stories – narratives anchored in authenticity, integrity, and service. Whether through partnerships, philanthropic work, or public voice, Lucas continues to engage in arenas that matter – that reach into communities, uplifting and giving back. His alignment with Forwardzone helps ensure that the impact of his name is not simply past glories, but present relevance.
When Team Lucas tightens the straps, and grips the handlebars, it’s more than a corporate team challenge. It is a statement: that privilege comes with responsibility; that influence includes uplift; that leadership is best expressed through action.
Because in the CEO Cycle Challenge, each team’s R50,000 entry, each sponsor, each corporate partner – all of it combines into something potent: the chance to invest in youth, to nurture talent that might otherwise be lost, to build structures of opportunity.
Lucas sees it. He feels it. And he invites others to feel it too: to pedal for someone’s shoes, someone’s uniform, someone’s dream.
In the end, the story of the CEO Cycle Challenge is a story of convergence – of business meeting purpose, cycling meeting community, leadership meeting legacy. Lucas Radebe, Forwardzone client, former football captain, current team lead, embodies the soul of that convergence.
It was truly a week of pedaling with purpose and we were proud to be a part of it once again.
