Rising Stars Take Center Stage

As the school term winds down, the JVW Playoffs, formally known as the JVW Diamond League / Diamond Cup, have burst into life – bringing together hundreds of talented young girls from across Gauteng and beyond to compete, connect, and grow through soccer.

Organised by JVW Football Club – the club founded by South African legend Janine van Wyk and Banyana Team Manager Lauren Duncan – the Diamond Cup is the flagship high-school girls’ soccer tournament.

The tournament itself hosted on the 27th and 28th September 2025 at Waterstone College, south of JHB, saw 1 x round of group stages, and then moved onto QFs, SFs and Finals per age group.

Number of Teams: 52 teams in total

  • 20 x U15s
  • 16 x U17s
  • 16 x Open

The format is intense: over two days, teams face off in group stages, with only the top schools progressing to the finals.

The JVW Diamond Cup isn’t just a competition – it’s deeply rooted in education and development. Beyond the matches, there’s an “educational component” where players are encouraged to engage with women’s sport beyond just playing.

Talent Development & Exposure

This is one of the most important platforms for young female footballers in the region. By playing against top school-level competition, participants:

  • Sharpen their technical and tactical skills in a high-stakes, tournament-style environment.
  • Gain visibility among scouts, coaches, and talent developers – providing a possible pathway into the JVW club system or even professional opportunities.

The playoffs are more than wins and losses: they cultivate resilience, teamwork, and school pride. According to coaches – mental preparation and squad depth have become just as important as star players. Coaches emphasize that success comes when “we play for each other … with trust in one another … to play for the jersey.”

Past tournaments have left a lasting mark. And every year, the tournament draws not only competitors but mentors, alumni, and supporters who believe in the impact of girls’ football.

Their work goes hand-in-hand with community impact – giving young women access to high-quality training, mentorship, and opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.

As the proud headline sponsor and development partner, Discovery plays a pivotal role in bringing the JVW Playoffs to life, ensuring that young female footballers have access to a competitive, inspiring, and professionally run platform. Their commitment goes far beyond branding – it is rooted in a shared purpose to make people healthier, support youth pathways and grow women’s sport from the grassroots up. Through this partnership, Discovery continues to invest in school-based programmes that nurture confidence, leadership, and healthy habits, while helping to build a sustainable pipeline of future stars for South African football.
