On 16 August 2025, Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg became the stage for a truly unique sporting crossover experience – a Castle Lager VIP experience, bringing South Africa’s national football coaches into the heart of the rugby world during the Castle Lager Rugby Championship.
Hosted in the exclusive SARU VIP Suite, the experience welcomed Bafana Bafana Head Coach Hugo Broos, Assistant Coach Helman Mkhalele, and Goalkeeping Coach Grant Johnson. Kitted out in Springbok and Castle Lager merchandise, the coaches were treated to a day that blended the excitement of rugby with the prestige of VIP hospitality, creating an unforgettable occasion for all involved.
For Coach Hugo Broos, the day was especially memorable – given the Belgian coach had never attended a Springbok rugby match during his tenure in SA before, making this his first taste of the electric Ellis Park atmosphere and the passionate Springbok fan base.

The experience began the day before, during the captains’ run, when Coach Broos had the chance to meet Springbok Head Coach Rassie Erasmus and Captain Siya Kolisi. This encounter wasn’t just a meet-and-greet; it symbolised the power of sports crossover, highlighting how sponsorship and fan experiences can amplify engagement across South African sport.

From exclusive suite access to behind-the-scenes interactions, the VIP experience reinforced Castle Lager’s commitment to bringing fans and sporting icons closer together, across codes and disciplines. It was more than hospitality – it was a celebration of South Africa’s rich sporting culture, showcasing the brand’s ability to connect audiences in innovative and meaningful ways.
